Benfey's elegy for Hampshire is of course worth reading, but his credulous quoting of the ultra-tendentious Yale "Report of the Committee on Trust in Higher Ed" is unfortunate. Demagoguery about "uneven academic standards & fears about free speech on campuses" is the most un-Hampshire BS imaginable.
